Proposed Competition Code Revision

NWACC COMPETITION CODE CHANGE PROPOSAL

Submitted by Lona Hyatt, Classical Glass Corvette Club of Tacoma

November 6, 2004

For the purpose of increasing novice participation in autocross events and to provide for the recognition of novice drivers:

It is proposed that the Competition Code, Section 7 – Awards, paragraph 2, Determination of Seasonal Championship Points, be modified to include the following paragraph:

2.3.1       Autocross seasonal class championship awards, novice class, shall be presented to the fastest male and female drivers.  Novice drivers receiving seasonal class championship awards are ineligible to compete in the novice class in future years.  No driver shall be eligible to compete in the novice class for more than 2 consecutive years regardless of whether or not they have received a seasonal class championship award.

NWACC SPEED EVENTS GUIDELINES CHANGE PROPOSAL

Because the modification proposed to the Competition Code Section 7, Rule 2.3.1 will also impact the Speed Events Guidelines, this change proposal must be part of the overall Change Proposal.  These specific changes should not be considered as a separate proposal.

This proposal creates a separate and new “Novice” class in autocross competition.

Current:

Section D  Speed Event Classes

A Woman’s Division will be included for Stock and Prepared classes.  Women competitors are not required to enter in the Women’s Division.

5          NOVICE CLASS

At many events, the hosting organization will choose to permit registration as a “Novice”.  This particular class is a per-event  class, and there is no Year-End award for Novice Class competition.  The intent of this class is to allow competition between relatively inexperienced drivers in a way that makes the event more fun for them as they learn.  To preserve this fun experience, anyone who has won 2 (two) events as a Novice must forfeit eligibility for this class and must register in the class that is most appropriate for their equipment.  Anyone may continue to register as a Novice until their second win or until it is desirable to compete with others at the same equipment level.

Proposed:

Section D  Speed Event Classes

A Woman’s Division will be included for Stock, Prepared, and Novice classes.  Women competitors are not required to enter in the Women’s Division.

5          NOVICE CLASS

A Novice Class shall be provided at each autocross event for new or relatively inexperienced drivers wanting to try or otherwise experience autocross competition.  This class shall be considered to be a learning classification and may allow experienced drivers or instructors to ride as passengers with Novice competitors.  Seasonal Championship Points for Year End awards shall be awarded in Novice class.

(a)       There shall be no separate car classifications in the Novice class.  All drivers compete against each other without regard to the vehicle being used.  All vehicles entered in the Novice class are required to pass the NWACC tech inspection and Novice drivers must meet all age, licensing, and insurance entry requirements.

(b)       Novice competitors shall be limited to two consecutive competition seasons.  Should a driver win a Novice Seasonal Championship Award, that driver shall no longer eligible for entry into a Novice class.
